Further, the operator limits the speed to 40 Kbps on users reaching the limit of 1 GB....

The Indian government has given Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), a state-run telco, a sovereign guarantee of Rs 19,000 crore. Through this, BSNL would be able to restructure its debt along with that of MTNL’s (Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited) debt. According to an ET Telecom report, BSNL and MTNL have a combined debt of Rs 60,000 crore. Over Rs 33,000 crore debt is in the books of BSNL, and the remaining is of MTNL....

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) will soon start 4G trials in four districts of Kerala in August 2022. This is the same month when the state-run telco is expected to finally launch 4G services for users in India. Initially, BSNL will run a test of its 4G network in four different districts of Kerala including Ernakulam, Thiruvananthapuram, Kannur, and Kozhikode, reported TheHindu. The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) is backing the recommendations of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on spectrum and RoW. The telecom regulator has proposed a new national portal for RoW. Further, TRAI has recommended exemption of RoW charges for the telcos for the next five years (FY23 to FY28) with an aim to expedite the laying of common ducts. On top of this, TRAI recommends that RoW permission should be streamlined with the participation of more utility departments and central agencies to reduce fiber cuts in an area....

In a positive development for the telcos and the other internet and connectivity service providers, the access charges for deploying optical fiber cable (OFC) have been reduced to Rs 1,000 per kilometre from Rs 1 lakh per kilometre. This will be a major relief for the companies involved in deploying OFC for providing connectivity services. It is also going to benefit the consumers in Mumbai as the ISPs (internet service providers) as well as the telcos will be able to expand their business faster at a lower cost....

COAI Sends Letter to Telecom Secretary As per the Director-General of COAI, Rajan Matthews, the customers have enjoyed very cheap tariffs for the last couple of years, but even with the new hike in the tariffs, the subscribers will be paying much less than what they were paying years ago. The COAI also sent a letter to telecom secretary Anshu Prakash, in which it said that the consumers will now be paying Rs 11 per GB of data which would be higher than the Rs 7....

The Department of Telecommunications or DoT on Thursday started accepting applications for telecom equipment and networking products manufacturers to apply for the PLI or production-linked incentive scheme under which ten large manufacturers, as well as ten MSMEs, will be chosen to receive incentives. As per the guidelines released on Thursday, Rs 12,195 crore will be disbursed as incentives to the ten qualifying companies in a five year period by achieving stipulated production targets....
